Avera Race Against Breast Cancer

Benefiting:

The Avera Cancer Institute continues to enhance the lives of cancer patients and their families through your generous support and participation in the Avera Race.  The 2010 Avera Race Against Breast Cancer marks its twenty-second year as Avera McKennan and the Avera Cancer Institute continue their ongoing commitment to providing all women in our community with the most advanced technology and compassionate care available in their fight against breast cancer.

How You Make a Difference

Without the support of our generous sponsors, supporters and volunteers, the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer couldn’t happen, and the many strides we make each year would be impossible.  Thanks to our sponsors, supporters and volunteers, we are winning the war against breast cancer, while bringing hope and healing to those who need it most.

Survivorship Services

A Time to Heal

"A Time to Heal" is a 12-week holistic rehabilitation program designed to help women regain their physical, emotional, and spiritual health after breast cancer treatment. Why is this essential? Like someone undergoing cardiac rehab after a heart attack, a woman deserves help in her recovery from breast cancer too.

Nutrition Services

Cancer Health and Fitness

Smart nutrition can help cancer survivors keep up energy levels, fight off infection, support the immune system and tolerate the side effects of treatment. That’s why it’s important to maintain an inner arsenal of protein and calories. It’s key to your body’s defense – and will help achieve the best possible outcome.

This past year, funds from the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer have supported the services of an on-site registered dietitian to provide one-on-one nutrition consults free of charge to patients with heightened nutrition needs.

In addition to free services, classes such as “Take Charge of Your Nutrition” are offered bi-monthly to discuss nutrition implications and side effects of cancer treatment. These classes are open and free to the public through your continued support in the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer.
