After Jean Smith’s mother, Shirley, was diagnosed with dementia, her family was relieved to find Avera Oahe Manor in Gettysburg, SD, for compassionate memory care. As soon as Shirley was settled in her new home, Jean knew that it was where she was meant to be.
“My mother was wrapped in love as a whole person, even on her most difficult days,” Jean remembered. “It felt like family taking care of family.”
Avera Oahe Manor is a special place — and thanks to our generous donors, five rooms were refreshed with amenities, and several more are on the waiting list for new flooring, paint, updated light fixtures, sinks, mirrors, toilets and more.
Like many donors, Jean and her family choose to give to in memory of a loved one cared for at an Avera facility. Others choose to give in honor of our dedicated caregivers.
