Linda Beischel never would have guessed that a quick stop at “The World’s Only Corn Palace” in Mitchell would save her life. But while she and her husband Rudy were visiting on their way to Montana, their journey took an unexpected turn.
Linda began having trouble speaking and other stroke-like symptoms. Thankfully, they spotted signs for nearby Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and drove there immediately.
Linda’s team at Avera Queen at Peace wasted no time evaluating her, quickly realizing her condition required more acute care. Shortly after, Linda and Rudy were on a Careflight helicopter to Sioux Falls, where she made a full recovery.
At Avera, we do whatever we can to help relieve the stress of illness or injury, so families like the Beischels can focus on healing. Programs like Careflight — and other accommodations for out-of-town patients — are offered at little to no cost thanks to our generous foundation supporters.
“The care and compassion of every person at Avera was outstanding,” Rudy said. “We were in the right place at the right time, and God was watching out for us.”
