Kirby Place at the Walsh Family Village

A Place of Comfort and Respite

Many call Kirby Place at the Walsh Family Village their “home away from home” — a place of comfort and respite during the challenging time of supporting a loved one in our care. Designed for patients and families living more than 30 miles from Sioux Falls, Kirby Place offers a welcoming stay while receiving treatment at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

The facility intends to alleviate the stress of traveling back and forth, so that families can focus on healing together. It's something that's truly special thanks to generous support from our donors.

“I was a guest at Kirby Place while my husband was unexpectedly hospitalized for a solid eight weeks. Many of those days were a rollercoaster of medical emergencies. Staying at Kirby Place allowed me to be by his side through it all, advocating for him while he was incapacitated due to a cardiac arrest,” said an anonymous donor who made a gift after her experience as a guest there.

“It was a short walk from the hospital for some much-needed rest, with comforts such as quiet spaces, a full kitchen, food to go and on-site laundry. The Kirby Place staff were absolutely amazing; I will forever be grateful for the generosity and hospitality extended to me during this time,” the guest added.
