Every few weeks, Valerie Buysse visits Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center to receive maintenance infusions for ovarian cancer. Valerie was diagnosed about two years ago. Since then, she’s visited a few Avera locations for treatment — ultimately deciding she wanted to stay close to her home as often as possible.
Thanks to Avera’s advanced telehealth capabilities and the collaborative nature of the entire oncology team, she can do just that. In fact, when Valerie visits Avera Marshall for her infusions, she meets virtually with oncologist Luis Rojas, MD, FACOG, who is in Sioux Falls.
“It’s like he is right in the room with you,” Valerie said. “The only thing you’re missing is the hug at the end.”
Caregivers across the Avera footprint operate like a well-oiled machine, following the same protocols, utilizing the same medications, adhering to the same charting processes and more — all to ensure patients facing cancer can receive their care wherever they’re most comfortable. The generous support of our donors helps make it all possible.
