Paying It Forward With New Look, Same You

Lana Sinkie is paying it forward. For more than two years, she has been receiving treatment at Avera Cancer Institute — Mitchell for stage 4 colon cancer. Now in remission, she wants to help other patients going through treatment, and she is sharing her talents to do so.

Lana has been a hairstylist for 38 years and loves to do hair while making people feel good in the process. She saw on Facebook that Avera Cancer Institute — Mitchell was looking for a stylist to provide patient wig services with the New Look, Same You program. That’s when she knew it was the perfect way to show her gratitude for the care she had received, paying it forward to help others in the process.

“Cancer isn’t the end,” said Lana. “God has a purpose in everything He does, and this is part of my purpose: to help others in their cancer journey.”

When she was first diagnosed, Lana visited the wig salon in Sioux Falls. That is where she met Diana Swier. The two women then worked together to open the salon at Avera Cancer Institute in Mitchell.

Patients seeking this wig service can ask their local provider for a wig salon referral. They’ll receive a personalized, on-site consultation with a stylist like Lana.
