Light the Way

What we do for children, adults, families, and the most vulnerable, defines us. You can be a ray of hope and light for others – especially the most vulnerable.

Through the support of our newly launched Light the Way Campaign, for the first time, Avera will offer residential addiction care for youth, as well as 24/7 psychiatric urgent care for those of all ages, by building a new four-story wing at the Avera Behavioral Health Center in Sioux Falls.

The completed project will allow more individuals of all ages to receive world class inpatient behavioral health care at Avera.

Be the Reason to Believe in a Brighter Tomorrow

Facing mental health challenges can be difficult – but it’s a journey that is made easier by compassionate and generous people like you. Together, we can improve the lives of others – a promise set forth by the Benedictine and Presentation Sisters. As we take steps to raise the level of mental health care, we ensure the Sisters’ enduring legacy.

With generous lead gift from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, the Light the Way Campaign will construct a much-needed $28 million addition to the Avera Behavioral Health Center. The Helmsley Charitable Trust’s generosity includes a $5 million community match. Every one-time and multi-year commitment is doubled, thanks to The Helmsley Charitable Trust.

With more beds available, more children, youth and at-risk individuals will have access to lifesaving care.

These difficulties associated with addiction affect everyone in our community. Thankfully, the strong mission of Avera ensures quality health care be available to all who face mental health or addiction challenges. That is also why it’s important for the community to support this endeavor.
